5 real benefits of juicing, and one thing juice cannot do

Juice has a reputation problem. Some people sell it as a cure for everything, and other people say it is just sugar in a bottle. The truth sits in the middle, and it is more useful than either side.

1. It helps you eat more fruit and vegetables

The World Health Organization advises at least 400g of fruit and vegetables a day, about five portions. On a busy day that is hard to reach, and a juice is an easy way to add one.

2. It helps you drink enough

Fruit and vegetables are mostly water, so a juice counts towards the water your body needs every day, which matters in a hot city like Da Nang.

3. It brings vitamins and minerals from the fruit

Guava, oranges, kumquat and lime are well known for vitamin C. Coconut and many vegetables bring potassium.

4. It makes vegetables easy

Beetroot, celery and spinach are not everyone's favourite on a plate. Pressed with apple, pineapple or lime, they taste good, and you can drink vegetables you would never order.

5. It is quick

A juice takes a minute to drink on the way to work, when a full plate of fruit would not happen.

The one thing juice cannot do

Pressing leaves most of the fibre behind, and fibre is a big part of why whole fruit is good for you. That is why the NHS counts juice as only one of your five portions a day, however much you drink, and suggests about 150ml a day, with a meal.

The World Health Organization also counts the sugar in fruit juice as free sugar, the kind to keep low. So enjoy juice, and keep eating whole fruit too.

How we make ours

At Juicy we press the fruit and vegetables slowly instead of blending or spinning them, strain every juice twice and use filtered water. Our 360ml bottle is two servings, which fits the advice above, and the calories and sugar of every juice are on getjuicy.vn/nutri.
